Bengsi Jilhani, 40, was sentenced by the magistrate’s court to 10 months' imprisonment for one count under Section 186 of the Penal Code, and 10 months for another charge under Section 22 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

For this offence, he is accused of attempting to escape police detention by trying to break the rear mirror of a police van on the same day, time, and place. Based on facts of the case, the court was told that the accused had threatened Rela personnel after he was prevented from travelling to Pulau Gaya, despite being told that movement to the island was only allowed between 5pm and 7pm.

The court was told Bengsi had tried to break the rear mirror of the van by banging his head onto it to escape.
