Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Mahidisham Ishak said the 39-year-old victim lodged a report on April 9, claiming that the suspect had cheated her after promising to marry her.
"The victim got to know the suspect on social media. He promised to marry her but before the wedding could take place, the victim helped him to pay off some personal debts," he said in a statement on Friday . He said the victim handed over RM30,000 worth of jewellery as well as RM122,500 cash before realising she had been scammed.ACP Mohd Mahidisham said the suspect was arrested in the Klang Valley on Wednesday ."The suspect has been remanded until Saturday , he said.
He also reminded the public to conduct background checks on their prospective partners before starting a relationship.ACP Mohd Mahidisham urged those with information to contact KL police hotline at 03-2146 0584/0585, CCID Scam Response Centre at 03-2610 1559/1599, CCID Infoline via WhatsApp at 013-211 1222, or log in to semakmule.rmp.gov.my or any nearest police station.
