KOTA KINABALU: A 64-year-old man who was charged for possessing parts of protected animals in Kota Belud in July last year has been asked to enter his defence next month.

Chung En Kin - who had pleaded not guilty to illegally possessing the meat of Banteng , large flying fox and sambar deer including its horn - which are protected animals, will have to prove his case on Aug 11 and 26.

According to the fact sheet, Chung is accused of having 36.10kg of the Banteng Tembadau, an animal product fully protected as listed under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997, without permission. On the second count, Chung was accused of possessing five carcasses of the large flying fox , an animal protected under the same Enactment, without a valid possession permit.
