KUALA LUMPUR: Young Malaysians are being lured on social media by offers of high-paying jobs abroad by illegal syndicates, warns Datuk Seri Michael Chong.

"We had 21 such cases last year and five so far this year, mainly involving young Malaysian women,” said the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head.

He added the victims end up being arrested for suspected illegal money laundering activities by the police after about three months. "The families end up paying a lot of money to the so-called lawyer but get no help in the end," he said, adding that one family ended up paying about RM100,000 in bogus legal fees.
