PETALING JAYA: Malaysians should not be worried about losing the “food war” after Singapore’s hawker culture was recently nominated for Unesco’s “Intangible Cultural Heritage” list, says the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.

It said Malaysia was planning to submit nominations for its local delicacies to be included in the list.

The ministry said the government planned to submit a proposal to Unesco titled “Malaysian Breakfast”. “As usual, it requires thorough research, data collection and information to fulfil Unesco’s standards and requirements. “The National Heritage Department and the ministry have started the efforts by engaging several experts, ” it said in a statement.Such recognition, the ministry said, did not mean that it was the only culture that belonged to a certain party, and was not limited to geographical area, politics or other factors.
