In these pandemic times, efforts to increase participation and engagement in the arts are definitely welcome. The Ministry of Culture of Taiwan and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia has joined forces with Roar Media to launch “Taiwan Asean Music Action” , an initiative to introduce Taiwanese indie music, culture and arts in South-East Asia.
Tama's aim is to forge collaborations with various local partners to produce Chinese and English content – radio to digital sessions – reflecting the diversity of contemporary Taiwanese music/arts and how regional scene-building is vital in these difficult days. The Tama project idea was first outlined by Chen Kuanfu, head of Cultural Division of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia about three years ago.In Malaysian, Roar Media, co-founded by Mak Wai Hoo, a veteran in the homegrown music and experimental scene, and Tan Wei Tee, a TV producer, is the platform tasked to develop programmes for this arts exchange.
Besides gathering news on Taiwan and South-East Asian music/arts developments, Tama plans to engage the masses by producing online forums and music programmes regularly in the coming months.
