PETALING JAYA: As expected, Malaysia's badminton team slumped to a 0-5 defeat to China in the opening Group D tie of the Sudirman Cup in Nanning, China, on Sunday (May 19).

All-England runners-up Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik almost pulled off an upset against world No. 3 Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen in the opening match, but they wasted the first point after going down fighting 21-18, 14-21, 22-24.

After good showing in the first two matches, Malaysian players gave away easy points in the remaining three. It was also a quick end for Vivian Hoo-Yap Cheng Wen in the women's doubles, when they were tamed 18-21, 14-21 by Du Yue-Li Yinhui.
