THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission views seriously reports of corruption among village development and security committees. MACC community education division director Razim Mohd Nor said this was to ensure that the village institution was always protected and free from corruption, especially when it comes to the interests of the local community.
“According to data and statistics, we have received information and complaints about corruption and abuse of power involving committee chairmen or village heads,” he said in Kuantan yesterday.He said one case had been prosecuted in court, two were still under investigation, five had received a letter to rectify weaknesses in committee procedures, and 13 were classified as no further action.
He said the committee is the last bastion in ensuring there is no leakage of funding provided by the government for physical, welfare and social development. – Bernama, August 12, 2022.
