The 35-year old male suspect was arrested at the Johor Baru MACC office on Wednesday at 5pm after giving his statement.
The suspect was seeking permission to participate in a tender and allegedly used false details to the local authority to obtain the work in April 2021.In a separate case, the Batu Pahat MACC branch detained a 34-year old Bangladeshi man for allegedly bribing a local authority enforcement officer for RM300.
The suspect, who works as a sundry shop assistant in Skudai, allegedly committed the act in mid-January this year as inducement for the officer not to issue a compound notice to him. The foreigner had been selling untaxed liquor and cigarettes, in violation of Section 107 of the Local Government Act 1976.
The suspect was detained at the Johor Baru MACC office on Wednesday at 2.30pm when giving his statement.Meanwhile, Johor MACC director confirmed the arrests, adding both suspects had been detained for 24 hours to assist investigations and would be released on MACC bail.
