KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has been accused of acting beyond its legal powers (ultra vires) for issuing compound notices to 80 entities over funds allegedly linked to 1MDB.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, who spoke on behalf of 42 out of the 80 entities, said the groups felt victimised by accusations thrown at them and will be lodging police reports over the matter soon."They acted ultra vires as the SRC International Bhd and 1MDB trials were still ongoing.

"The funds that we received from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in 2012 and 2013 were from a political fund and this is permissible under Malaysian law. "The RM2.6bil was deposited into Najib's account in March 2013 and the GE13 took place in May. He later returned a sum of the fund in October 2013 so there is no way these monies are linked to the RM2.6bil," he said.
