Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd executive director Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli, in his court testimony yesterday, said that in 2014, Lim did not say anything but seemed “happy” when he was given another envelope containing RM100,000.When reading out his witness statement before Sessions judge Azura Alwi, Zarul Ahmad said that he arranged a meeting with Lim in August 2013 for a progress report on the project and also to seek advice on its direction.
On Dec 17 last year, Zarul Ahmad testified that he was “shocked” when Lim allegedly asked for 10% of future profits from the project.Zarul Ahmad also said he was under immense stress after the undersea tunnel project came under public scrutiny in 2016, and that he had to take medication to calm down.
For the first amended charge, Lim is charged with using his position as then Penang chief minister to corruptly receive RM3.3mil to help businessman Zarul Ahmad’s company secure the project, worth RM6,341,383,702 between January 2011 and August 2017 at the Penang Chief Minister’s Office.
