KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — Voting hours have been extended for the 15th general election now that the voter pool has been enlarged enabling all Malaysians aged 18 and above to cast their ballots.
“The voting time will be extended by an hour, from 8am to 6pm in the peninsula and 7.30am to 5.30pm in Sabah and Sarawak. Wan Junaidi also said the EC has abolished certain conditions for postal voting. This means that all Malaysians living overseas aged 18 and above can register online to vote by post when registration opens.
Previously, only those who have lived in or returned to Malaysia for 30 days or more in the past five years, could apply for postal voting.
There is much danger and risks when collecting and transporting of ballot boxes in the late hours of the day. Counting & verifying the votes cast too will likewise be affected esp in disputes while everyone is physically exhausted. Accuracy of the result would likely be suspect.
What about Sabahans/ Sarawakians living in the peninsular (vice versa)? With higher cost of living, the last thing people willing to spend their hard earned money on is flight tickets just so politicians can mess up this country even more.
hopefully the hundreds of thousands who reside in singapore will do their duty and vote in GE15
Very good move 👍🏼 Thank you very much sprgovmy
