KOTA KINABALU: The PKR Youth wing in Kota Belud are concerned about speculation that former federal minister Datuk Salleh Said Keruak has been accepted into the party.Its Kota Belud youth chief Ramzis Mudin said that while they accept new members, they were reluctant to do so when it comes to leaders with a “bad record”.“The GE14 results have proven what the people want in a government – that they want new leaders to develop and rebuild Kota Belud,” he said in a statement here Monday (Oct 7).He said Salleh is only known for his “cunning politics”.“Therefore, his apparent acceptance into PKR, which was done secretively, is something that cannot be taken lightly,” Ramzis said.He added that the central and state PKR leadership should think about this thoroughly and listen to what division leaders have to say on the matter.He also said that youth leaders are afraid that Salleh’s acceptance into PKR would ruin relations between leaders and grassroots supporters.Salleh, who left Sabah Umno during last year’s exodus, was rejected by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, which officially spread its wings to Sabah in April.On Sept 17, Salleh, who is United Sabah Bajau Organisation (USBO) adviser, pledged his support for PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to take over the reins from Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.However, both Salleh and USBO president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin (former Dewan Rakyat Speaker) denied that they were joining PKR during a Malaysia Day event in Kota Belud.Salleh, who lost his family’s stronghold in Kota Belud in the last election to a little-known Parti Warisan Sabah candidate, said he wanted to help PKR champion progressive politics to ensure stability and moderation, especially in Sabah.
