KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven men have been detained for driving while under the influence of alcohol during a traffic operation in the city.

Six motorcyclists were also detained for riding dangerously while three others were arrested for using fake number plates in the operation which was conducted from Friday until Sunday at the city centre, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Loke Yew and the DUKE Expressway.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh said the blood alcohol level of those detained exceeded the permitted limit. "We also detained nine motorcyclists. Six of them rode in a dangerous way and disturbed other road users.A total of 298 summonses were issued for multiple offences and 17 motorcycles were seized for illegal modifications, he added."Such operations are conducted to ensure the safety of all road users," he said.
