KOTA KINABALU: Calling for a total ban on alcohol consumption, especially during the Kaamatan and Gawai festivals, is unacceptable, says Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin.

He said the proposal by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin to cancel licences for the sale of alcohol because of drink driving would affect the indigenous rights of the people of Sabah and Sarawak.

Instead of infringing on the rights of others in a multicultural country, Chan said the government should look at more equitable solutions. He said the previous Pakatan Harapan government was working to double the jail time for drunk drivers to the maximum of 20 years, with the minimum set at six years, as well as to lower the legal blood alcohol concentration rate from 80mg to 50mg.

Genuinely wondering, is there any roadblock being done for alcohol breath test? At this rate, im pretty sure kita sudah dpt kenal pasti jalan2 yg menjadi titik panas for these accidents

All first world nations consume alcohol. You don't ban cars because some people get into accidents. If you don't drink then demonstrate discipline. No need to force your beliefs onto others.

They ban because alcohol is non halal

Bans appeal to simple minded people. Pemikiran cetek.

Although outright banning it will inevitably move it underground and you'll have an even bigger problem then.

Revise the law & enforce it! An eye for an eye! If you're drunk and killed somebody, murder. If you paralyzed someone coz you're drunk, lets break your back bone and make you paralyzed. Only with these kind of law will make them think before drinking too much! 😡

Also ban kk mp

Should be banned

Ban then ban cigarettes. Ban sugar. Also obese fat people. Ban motorbikes. Ban petroleum. Ban palm oil. All harmful. But stealing is ok.

Just ban. Get on with it! TrustNoOne

Pls ban. Dia bukan kerajaan
