GEORGE TOWN: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been urged to look into the issues faced by hospitals here, such as the lack of medical equipment.

Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon informed him of Khairy's visit to Penang this weekend to check on the state's current Covid-19 situation.

"I have often conveyed to MCA headquarters the severity of the situation in Penang and the medical system problems," he said in a Facebook post on Friday .He said there had been a spike in the number of new cases and deaths in Penang daily, which was of great concern to the people. "Penang MCA has been assisting in the fight against the pandemic and we are obliged to ... follow the steps of the state and Federal government in the fight against the virus," he said."On Sept 5, among 5,496 people screened, 1,558 were tested positive," he said, adding this indicated a 28.35% positive rate.
