WTC, Axiata Arena and IDCC Shah Alam PPVs will reopen soon to increase the administration of COVID-19 vaccine boosters. 42% of Klang Valley's adult population has been boosted so far.

To increase the current COVID-19 vaccine booster program in the Klang Valley, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced four high-capacity vaccination centres will open in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur starting from the 15th of January 2022. Most of the venues are similar to the previous Mega PPVs used during the initial vaccination programme last year.

The COVID-19 booster is currently recommended to ensure optimal levels of protection against COVID-19 as data has shown that protection levels may wane over time. The booster jab is recommendedwith Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and CanSino Bio vaccines. The default booster is Pfizer but other alternatives are permitted as listed by the Technical Working Group above.

As of 6th January 2022, Malaysia has administered more than 7.3 million boosters which cover 31.4% of the total adult population. In the Klang Valley alone, 42% of adults have received their boosters. Since 3rd January, the booster programme is doing more than 200,000 doses per day and Malaysia has hit a record high of 245,370 booster doses administered yesterday.

Malaysia has fully vaccinated 97.7% of total adults or 78.5% of the total population against COVID-19. According to the, there are less than 250,000 adults who have not been vaccinated which is 1.1% of the total adult population. Based on data per 100K people according to vaccination status, the risk of COVID-19 infections and deaths are significantly higher among the unvaccinated versus the fully vaccinated as well as the boosted.
