PETALING JAYA: With an estimated 425,000 households in major Klang Valley areas facing water cuts between Tuesday and Friday, health experts have advised the public to maintain good hygiene and to take extra precaution to reduce any possible contamination and transmission of Covid-19.

A limited supply of water could disrupt the process of Covid-19 prevention as frequent and proper hand hygiene with water and soap was one of the most important measures to prevent infections, said Universiti Malaya Department of Social and Preventive Medicine public health medicine specialist Assoc Prof Dr Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki.

“I don’t think this water disruption will cause a wave of Covid-19 infection because if we apply the SOP, there are many layers of prevention before we go to specific washing and cleaning procedures. Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd announced last week that 290 areas in Petaling, Klang, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Langat would face water supply disruption from July 14 till 17 as the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 Water Treatment Plant would be temporarily shut down to replace critical assets and conduct upgrading works.
