The flood bund along Jalan Ali Budi, which was supposed to prevent Sungai Labu from overflowing into the area, collapsed while it was undergoing repairs during a downpour that afternoon.
A total of 10 families, comprising 37 people including nine children and three babies, were evacuated from the village to a temporary flood relief centre at Sekolah Rendah Agama Kampung Giching for safety. Sepang district officer Khairi Azali Ibrahim said the bund first broke on Wednesday following continuous heavy rain that caused the river to overflow its banks into the village.
“The residents were evacuated to flood relief centres for safety and were allowed to return home on Saturday after floodwaters receded. “However, heavy rains struck again on Sunday causing the bund, which was being repaired, to collapse.He also said that the village was not prone to flooding and the cause was directly related to the broken bund.
