Kumpulan Azmin, antara lain termasuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, Saifuddin Abdullah dan Baru Bian mendakwa gerakan mengehadkan kuasa perdana menteri telah dilakukan sejak beberapa bulan lalu.
Dalam satu kenyataan bersama yang diketuai Mohamed Azmin Ali , mereka sebaliknya berkata, tindakan yang diambil, yang turut melibatkan parti pembangkang seperti Umno dan PAS, bagi membentuk sebuah kerajaan baru adalah bagi “menyelamatkan” perdana menteri, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Menurut perjanjian yang dipersetujui pimpinan PH sebelum pilihan raya umum lepas, Mahathir akan menyerahkan kepimpinan kerajaan kepada presiden PKR Anwar Ibrahim pada satu tarikh yang tidak ditetapkan. “Usaha tersebut adalah kemuncak kempen mereka untuk mewarwarkan isu peralihan kuasa sebagai agenda utama PH.“Kami yakin bahawa percubaan memaksa perdana menteri menentukan tarikh peralihan kuasa sebagai usaha jahat untuk menjadikan perdana menteri sebagai ‘lame duck PM’,” kata mereka.
