Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay confirmed that investigations showed that the suspect had indeed acted alone. “This is because our investigations are based on a comprehensive probe that included studying the closed-circuit television footages and information from the suspect's family,” said Ayob Khan during a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters here.

In the June 18 incident, the 19-year-old entered a bank armed with a sickle and took a woman hostage at 2.04pm.
