ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 1,260kg of frozen fish worth about RM31,500 from Indonesia have been seized by the authorities at the Sultan Abu Bakar complex here.

"Maqis enforcement officers carried out an inspection on a lorry that was carrying 63 boxes of frozen fish."Upon further checks, the officers found that the information presented on the goods was inaccurate and was causing confusion," he said in a statement here on Saturday (July 31).

He noted that the department had also recorded statements from the lorry driver."The 34-year-old local man has been released after we recorded his statement for further investigation."A total of 1,260kg of frozen fish worth about RM31,500 have also been confiscated for investigation," he said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act for declaring false, inaccurate or misleading documents.The offence is punishable with a fine of not more than RM50,000, or a jail term of not more than two years, or both. headtopics.com
