Health Ministry says myocarditis risk after Covid jab rare, after some doctors question vaccination programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 ― The Health Ministry today said that the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency has not detected any “safety alerts” proving the adverse effects of the Covid-19 vaccine, after several medical practitioners raised concern over certain types of vaccines recently.

This comes after a group of doctors released a letter addressed to the prime minister of Malaysia and the Health Ministry on the risk of young men contracting myocarditis as well as pericarditis from Covid-19 vaccinations. Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle, while pericarditis is inflammation of the lining outside the heart.

It added that the Institute of Clinical Research , National Institutes of Health and the Health Ministry also conducted a Malaysian vaccine safety study known as Case-Based Monitoring of Adverse Events Following Covid-19 Vaccination . “This SAFECOVAC study found the actual rate of myocarditis incidence for every million doses given was 0.9 for comirnaty vaccine recipients, 0.5 for CoronaVac and 0.7 for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.
