The Air Pollution Index reading in several areas of Sarawak recorded unsafe readings this morning, with Sri Aman near Kuching hitting the hazardous level.for Sri Aman was at 365, having climbed steadily from a reading of 201 at 10pm last night.
An API of 0-50 represents good air quality, 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, while 300 and above is hazardous. Meanwhile, 29 areas nationwide recording unhealthy API levels are - Seri Manjung in Perak; Batu Muda and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur; Putrajaya ; Kuala Selangor , Petaling Jaya , Shah Alam , Klang and Banting in Selangor; Nilai and Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; Alor Gajah , Bukit Rambai and Bandaraya Melaka in Malacca; Segamat , Batu Pahat , Kluang and Tangkak in Johor; as well as Temerloh , Jerantut and Indera Mahkota Kuantan in Pahang.
The smoke emanating from these hotspots believed to be from forest fires and is largely blamed for transboundary haze blanketing Malaysia.has shown that the haze in Peninsular Malaysia is coming from Sumatra while the haze in Sabah and Sarawak is coming from Kalimantan.
