Selepas kematian Dr Li Wenliang, pakar mata berusia 34 tahun di Wuhan, 10 ahli akademik menyebarkan sepucuk surat terbuka mendesak pembaharuan politik dan kebebasan bersuara di negara komunis itu.
Wabak itu mendedahkan “kekurangan”, katanya sambil manambah China perlu melakukan pembaharuan ke atas sistem kawalan dan pencegahan wabak serta kesihatan awam. Kakitangan perubatan berkata, langkah itu untuk memastikan pesakit dirawat seawal mungkin, bukannya menunggu sehingga ujian makmal diperolehi.
