OSLO: Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg, pro-democracy campaigners in Hong Kong and the Nato military alliance are among those tipped for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize, following nominations by politicians.

Although nominated last year, the 2019 prize went to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his peacemaking efforts which ended two decades of hostility with longtime enemy Eritrea. While Thunberg’s name was put forward by two Swedish parliamentarians, three members of the Norwegian parliament have suggested that the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation – the military alliance that last year marked its 75th anniversary – should be given the award.
