KUCHING (Bernama): The government plans to purchase a Bombardier aircraft and a 'Medevac' helicopter for the use of the Fire and Rescue Department, says Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin handing over a mock-up representing the 1,000 fire extinguishers to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman .

She said both of these air assets, which the fire department had not yet acquired, were essential, especially in the process of evacuating victims in rural areas, and putting out forest fires. "I will be going to Italy in the near future to see the effectiveness of the machinery or equipment used in the country.

A total of 1,000 fire extinguishers were handed over to the state fire department to be distributed to long houses in remote areas as a first aid tool in extinguishing fires.
