Azrul Mohd Khalib says the vaccine rollout has shown ‘tremendous improvement’ despite the delay in their procurement.
He said the government’s failure to make a provision for vaccine purchase in the 2021 national budget was indicative of its mindset at the time the budget was presented. In Malaysia, more than 200,000 vaccine doses are currently being administered daily. If the rate were to be maintained for a week, it would be nearly equal to Britain’s weekly average.“I just hope supply is stable and reliable so that we are able to maintain and even go beyond those numbers,” he said.
The EU ambassador to Malaysia, Michalis Rokas, dismissed Khairy’s claim as baseless, saying all requests from Putrajaya regarding vaccine distribution had been approved without any problem. He pointed out that the US purchased in advance enough vaccines to immunise its entire population three times over.
