Govt considering possibility of banning vapes, e-ciggies thesundaily ecigarettes health vape

The government is considering the possibility of banning the sale of electronic cigarettes and vapes, according to Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly AhmadHe said the ministry will be conducting a detailed study on the need to enforce the ban of such products, after reported deaths due to their consumption in the United States.

“In view of the latest international studies showing the side effects of e-cigarettes and vapes, including several reported deaths in the US, a study is needed on whether we should prohibit their sales here. “An expert working committee, chaired by the Deputy Health Minister , has been set up to review the kind of control that the ministry will take ,” he told the Dewan Rakyat, here, today.

It was reported that to date, there are over 20 individuals in the United States who have died from vaping-related illnesses in the past weeks. Dzulkefly was responding to questions by Ahmad Marzuk Shaary on whether the government intends to ban the sale of e-cigarettes, especially to school students, considering the health risk it poses.
