THE sight of workmen in a gondola being tossed about by strong winds on Tuesday sent chills down everyone’s spine.In many parts of Kuala Lumpur, inclement weather had also caused damage to property but mercifully not to human and animal lives till now.
Obviously, the safety and precautionary measures that we have been – or should have been – used to, need review. For a start, the SOPs for working in gondolas must be reviewed and revised with immediate effect, pending which all similar work should be temporarily suspended when there is inclement weather.
Workers should be equipped with additional safety equipment and their current safety equipment be subjected to more frequent audits.
