Diabetes screening should be done annually for adults at risk of the condition, as well as those aged 30 or older, he advises. “In this group, screening should be done every two years, starting at the age of 10 or at the onset of puberty if puberty occurs at a younger age,” he says. “The main challenge is to translate such awareness into action towards healthier lifestyle practices.

One reason for diabetics who are unaware about their condition is ignorance of the disease, Jong says.
