Amid swirling speculation that Perikatan could field more candidates in Sabah against Barisan Nasional’s Umno candidates, sources indicated that there was a likelihood that Kiandee was being rescued by the national leadership so he could defend the seat he has held since 1999.Some political circles have claimed that Perikatan could even field up to seven candidates. However, there has been no confirmation from Perikatan.
Among the other names that might contest on a Perikatan symbol was incumbent Libaran MP Datuk Zakaria Edris who was also dropped by Hajiji, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman. The ruling GRS-Barisan coalitions had earlier worked out a seat sharing deal that would see GRS getting 13 out of the 25 Sabah parliamentary seats, with Barisan to contest the remaining 12.
