LABIS: Engaging in personal attacks against opponents will not bring any benefit to the people, said Labis parliamentary seat hopeful Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

The Barisan Nasional-MCA candidate said even Tan Chong, who was elected Bekok assemblyman in the Johor election in March, was not spared from such attacks especially with the campaigning period coming to a close soon.“What the people want to see are elected officials who are present and visible in the constituency, and one that can bring developments to the area.

“If reelected as MP, I will ensure that their voices are once again brought into Parliament just like I did when I was Labis MP before this,” he said during a dinner programme at SJKC Chaah here on Thursday . He also highlighted several developments he brought to Labis, including adding SMK Seri Bali, an additional secondary school to Chaah as the town only had one secondary school - SMK Chaah - prior to that.

Chua, a former two-term Labis MP, lost the seat to Pakatan Harapan-DAP’s Pang Hok Liong in the 14th General Election. Meanwhile, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, who was also present at the event, showed his support for Chua, adding that the candidate was no stranger to the constituency.“Chua, a chartered accountant, is a good ‘horse’ who can run fast and far, and one that can bring your voice to Parliament,” he added.
