Free public transport for disabled people soon, says Nancy Shukri

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri says the government will look into a mechanism to provide free public transport rides to disabled people. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, January 18, 2023.

PEOPLE with disabilities will soon enjoy free transport services, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri said. She said Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook has approved of the move, but the mechanism to provide free rides for the group will need to be looked into. She said people with disabilities are currently entitled to a 50% discount on public transport fare, but not many are benefiting from it.

“I spoke to the minister about this matter, and in principle, he has agreed to the proposal,” she told reporters after officiating a town hall session on “Child Services ” organised by the Social Welfare Department in Putrajaya today. In a tweet, Nancy said just before the cabinet meeting today, she had talked to Loke about the possibility of providing free rides to people with disabilities who use LRT, MRT, and stage bus services. – Bernama, January 18, 2023.
