PETALING JAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should issue a public apology over a controversial statement on the recent racially-motivated attacks in France, says the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ).

CIJ said Dr Mahathir should use his position and seniority as a public figure to educate the masses and promote the elimination of all forms of discrimination, rather than abusing social media to provoke and incite hostility.

CIJ, in condemning Dr Mahathir’s remarks, said while freedom of expression is recognised by international law, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that anyone should be free from incitement to discrimination. “It is alarming and grossly irresponsible of the former prime minister to propagate the above-listed message, as such virulent and hate-laden statements may trigger the worst of actions, such as provoking imminent violence or crimes, ” added CIJ.

“The law of civilised nations is that no one is allowed to take the law into their own hands, let alone take somebody’s life just because that person happens to disagree with his beliefs or stance on certain issues.

Good luck on that

Like I said, when he do apologize for his controversial tweets or remarks, Malaysia will experience snow the next day.

He is the king of racism

Apa nama...apa nama...

TDM does not apologise for anything...so dun waste your time with him.

So double standard!! Ask the French for appologies for insulting the mighty prophet of Allah and not to use the right to 'freedom of speech' to 'insult' in future to everybody not just to the mighty prophet. Freedom of speech cn nvr be used to insult. Bigot hypocrite westeners!

Why? Isnt he praticing the 'freedom of speech' or rather 'freedom to insult' as glorified by the West? How cn the West be so hypocrite and selective in what they fight for? Why is it ok when the West is doing it ...but not ok when the muslims are doing it?

Why? Tun, please keep talking.

Apologise your head! France shud apologise not Tun! What a load of bollocks!

Till hell freezers over, no?

He too old to admit mistake. Forget about it.

Malaysian are not dumb !!! Read properly & digest it....don't buly muslim !!!

Not gonna happen in a million years

France 🇫🇷 are imperialist during 1800 centuries. Bad habits inherited from their grandparents.

Is this just based on the point nbr 12. Statement? How about nbr 1-11, whats d text says?

Yeah he better apologise such big ego needs to be kept in check and it’s his oversized ego that cause all this politicking in the first place

I’m more interested on public apology for defending that stupid cartoons

no need.. tho Tun’s statement is inappropriate its macron who’s the one inciting hatred...

He didn’t say sorry to the Vietnamese when he was DPM and said those horrible stuff about shoot them boat people on sight. Hmm 🤔

Some body has self interest on this.

Remember in a country don’t touch religion and tradition culture.....then we can live in harmony. To say sorry.....no need!

No need to apologise!

When have the senile old man ever apologied for his transgressions or for being a racist.

It is najib who needs to make PUBLIC APOLOGIZE

He's telling the truth. No need to apologize.

FMTNews ForeignWorkers In principle it's an excellent move. mkula is talking nonsense as usual. But DatukSaravanan must come up with a more practical solution than having a SOCSO rep present & interfere with the hiring process. The portal should have a feature to solve the problem. Ask the IT guys. mkula what is so counterintuitive about this move? for unskilled foreign workers, the govt should compile the right data set and allow only critical industries to hire. the rest should be encouraged to automate in line with IR4.0.
