Forcing civil servants to use Bahasa Malaysia is regressive, says Rafidah

Former minister Rafidah Aziz says if Malaysia's inward-looking mindset persists, with penalties imposed for communicating with the rest of the world in English instead of Bahasa Malaysia, the country will be the bureaucratic pariah of Asean. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 28, 2022.

ENFORCING the use of Bahasa Malaysia at all official functions, including at international meetings, is a regressive move, former minister Rafidah Aziz said today. She said civil servants should instead be raising their proficiency in English, including other relevant languages.
