PETALING JAYA: Flood victims are eager to regain some semblance of normalcy in their lives but red tape in applying for aid has dampened their spirits.

Panir Selvam, whose house in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25, Shah Alam, was submerged in floodwater during the deluge last month, expressed his frustration in getting the necessary aid from the government.

Panir, who has a son and daughter aged 35 and 34 respectively, said he did not execute the change of name for the house as the transfer of ownership was not a simple process but involved much administrative work. “My family and I have been living here for so many years and paying our electricity bill. What more do they want to know about us?” he asked.

But he noted that questions arose in cases where people were renting the property or living in houses not under their names.
