Pontian OCPD Supt Mustafa Bakri Salleh said the fishermen, Mohd Khir Ismail and Yusni Mohd Yusof, both 36, had gone out to Pulau Pisang on a fibreglass boat on Thursday.
"On Friday , their friends and families who were worried about them went to look for the victims and found their personal belonging including hand phones and cigarettes near Pulau Pisang. "The items were found on the victims' boat but they were nowhere to be found," he said when contacted here on Saturday .
He added that the father-in-law of one of the victims made a police report to the Ayer Baloi police station about the missing fishermen and handed over the items found to the police on Friday. "A search-and-rescue operation was conducted since Friday with the help of other agencies including the Fire and Rescue department and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency as well as local fishermen," he said, adding that the operation is ongoing.
