Tawau police chief Supt Peter Umbuas said the 60-year-old victim was fishing with his son, 27, prior to the 12.30pm incident.
He also refused to comment when asked about the police's actions following the alleged incident, or whether the suspects have fled Malaysian waters. He said the fishermen were allegedly approached by three masked men on a fibre-glass boat at gun point.Umbuas said one of the suspects was believed to have fired a shot which hit the victim in the arm.Asked when they lodged a report or who informed the police following the incident, he did not respond.
