Federal Court allows Nufam president’s appeal in Malaysia Airlines unlawful dismissal suit

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 20 — The Federal Court here today upheld a High Court’s decision which ruled that the National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia president Ismail Nasaruddin Abdul Wahab was dismissed unlawfully by Malaysia Airline System Bhd in 2013 over comments he made about the airline.

She said the court accepted that the contents of the press statement by Ismail Nasaruddin were related to problems faced by employees at the workplace and criticism of the management’s failure to address the problems. He also called for the resignation of the then chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, claiming that the CEO had failed to make changes in resolving the cabin crew’s problems, which had demoralised the employees, since the latter took over the helm in September 2011.
