KUALA LUMPUR: Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said will lead Barisan Nasional’s election machinery for the Kemaman by-election, the Umno Supreme Council said.
The Umno Supreme Council agreed to appoint Ahmad Said, who is Terengganu Umno chief, the party’s secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki told a press conference here. The Kemaman by-election on Dec 2 was called after an election court nullified the 2022 general election victory of PN candidate Che Alias Hamid of PAS because state government aid contributions to voters was held to constitute election bribery.
BN suffered badly in the last general election and at the state elections in August, which saw PAS making a clean sweep, winning all eight parliamentary seats and 32 state seats.
