PORT DICKSON: A 29-year-old engineer believed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol has been detained after he drove against traffic and crashed into two other vehicles.

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed said the incident happened at 2.40am on Sunday at KM26 of the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway."The 31-year-old driver of one of the two cars suffered a broken thigh and was sent to the Port Dickson Hospital for treatment.

"The 24-year-old driver of the other car and his two friends aged 23 and 25 escaped injuries," he said in a statement.The suspect, he said, will be taken to the Magistrate's Court on Sunday morning to be remanded. The case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence.

Offenders can be jailed between seven and 10 years fined up to RM50,000 and barred from driving for seven years upon conviction. The engineer will also be probed under Section 42 of the same legislation for dangerous driving and can be jailed up to five years, fined not more than RM15,000 and barred from driving for five years if found guilty.
