IPOH: An elderly man has been missing for over 48 hours now since he went hiking near a hill at Puncak Jelapang here on Friday (March 11) evening.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the search and rescue teams were looking for Lau San, 84, who was reported missing by friends after the hiking trip at about 6.30pm.

“Canine units and drones from the police and Fire and Rescue Department have been deployed to look for Lau,” said ACP Yahaya on Sunday .Aside from the police and firemen, the search and rescue operation also consists of personnel from the Civil Defence Department and Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team.

ACP Yahaya said the public are reminded to always take care of their own safety as well as other group members while carrying out high-risk leisure activities like hill climbing or hiking.“They should also never leave their friends alone under any circumstances when going in groups,” he said, adding that the people should call 999 immediately for emergencies.

“The people should always bring along their mobile phones and ensure that these are adequately charged,” he said.
