Including plenty of fruit and vegetables in the diet could reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, according to new research.
Researchers from all across Europe investigated whether there is an association between a diet high in fruit and vegetables and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The participants underwent blood tests to measure their levels of vitamin C and carotenoids , and the participants were asked to self-report their fruit and veg intakes.
In fact, participants in the group with the highest levels of vitamin C and carotenoids had a 50% lower risk compared to those in the group with the lowest levels.
