Penang Narcotics Crime Investigations Department chief Asst Comm Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah said most of the drugs were found stored in a flat in Bukit Mertajam after a skillful interrogation of the suspects aged between 38 and 47 years on Tuesday.Seized from them were 10 packets of heroin weighing 171.35g worth RM2,296 as well as nine packets of methamphetamine weighing 13.25g worth RM1,325 and nine Erimin5 pills weighing 2.42g worth RM135.
They then led police to Bukit Tengah, where a second arrest was made. Another male suspect was detained and heroin weighing 457g worth RM6,124 was seized. “Further investigation then led us to raid a rented flat unit in Bukit Mertajam where nine packets of heroin weighing 4.12kg worth RM55,275 and two slabs of heroin base weighing 750g worth RM69,645 were found stored.
“We believe the heroin base, heroin and methamphetamine were headed for the local market. The syndicate has been active since June. “If undetected, the drugs would have fed the addiction of 68,842 addicts,” said ACP Mustafa at the state contingent police headquarters in Penang Road yesterday.
