Industry veterans and consumer rights groups condemn drink-driving deaths, but dispute wisdom of Annuar Musa's suggestion.

Alcohol industry and community activists are unanimous in their criticism of drink-driving related deaths but have also panned Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa'sfor the government to freeze the issuance of licenses for the sale of liquor pending new guidelines and laws.

"Taking the wheel while drunk is not to be condoned. Drink-driving is irresponsible, dangerous and leads to deaths," said Deepak Gill, a spokesperson for the Alcohol Consumer Rights Group.

The standard of policing on roads is main cause of 50k deaths. AES hardly functions, Summons are given discount. Duit kopi works wonders. Rempits can never be stopped. Bus and lorry drivers have more summons and yet they drive. Then finally drugs and alcohol. Pathetic !!

so very clever la this consumer activist kelentongMalaysia

Lives aren't mere numbers

just 47 out of 55,000. how many percent?

Seatbelts would be a good start

Traffic police should conduct more roadblocks like during MCO. Plus enforcing severe punishment for drunk driving. Many drinkers will behave if they want to drink outside their home.

dont manipulate the issue

More enforcement required to reduce overall accident statistics especially drunk driving, beating red lights, ignoring speed limits / pedestrian crossings, failure to use turn signal lights etc. Danger locations must be analysed and mitigation steps taken. Don't play on racism.

If justice done, that 47 drunk drivers should be punished with death penalty.

truth is out.. it was just racism

Just to show that drink driving is ok.

Time to come down hard, on the other causes of deaths (54,953 road deaths out of 55,000 in 9 years) on the road too, caused by deliberate breaking of laws (e.g. beating red lights, going past speed limits) as these can no longer be called ACCIDENTS!

EXACTLY. This is about politics to blow up a problem for votes. Which is good something is being done abt drink driving but is NOT the massive killer it’s made out to be. Just Be honest and ALSO fix the rest like excessive speeding, running red lights, overloaded trucks etc.

Everything here is race !

If we only allow public transport during festivel and public Holiday we can safe so many life.. banned all the car without safety factor.. improve the law and upgrade public transport. Problem will be controlled to minimum level

Any death in an accident is 1 life too many regardless of the cause. DUI, speeding, etc are all violation of the law. The law is there but can’t say the same about enforcement. Changing the law without improvement in enforcement is just futile.

hopefully one of the family members of this editor get hit by drunk driver

What If I kill you mother/brother tonight...Its going to be much lower than this.

Yet there is no shrieking socmed mob when a person recklessly speeds on highways causing fatal accidents or cutting dangerously leading to fatal collisions. But because more than 95% of these fatal accidents cannot be turned into a racial issue, so conveniently disregarded.

This should make the terrorists PASPusat 2015-2020 and umnoonline 2004-2020 and all their running dogs in Putra, Isma and whatever not and PDRMsia AGCPutrajaya very angry. -

That is not a correct method of %taging causes of accidents against total accidents.

the problem with drunkard in accident is that, often they didnt get affected as much as the victim.... the victim usually get badly injured or even died while the drunkard only suffered minor injury to none at all... it ticks people off when it supposed to be the other way around

0.085% only? Sounds really low

so what? were people's lives insignificant to you? Where is your empathy?!!
