Dr M: Third national car project under NAP 2020 needs private investors

KUALA LUMPUR: The third national car project under the National Automotive Policy 2020 ( NAP 2020 ) is still waiting for investors, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad .

"We are waiting for investors because this time around, Government does not intend to invest. "We are inviting investors with foresight as to the future of our motor vehicles and we are ready with new technology which will make the new national car competitive," said the Prime Minister in a press conference after the launch of the National Automotive Policy (NAP 2020) on Friday (Feb 21). Dr Mahathir said the prototype was ready but will not be exhibited to the public. The Government, he said, is working on ensuring that the features of the cars would become more sensitive to its environment, making it safer for drivers. "We have the capacity but we need investment. "The Government will not invest so we are asking the private sector to come in and invest and produce cars, not only for Malaysia but outside," he said. The Government, said Dr Mahathir, has made a" conscious decision" under NAP 2020 to implement the new third national vehicle, also known as the Malaysian Vehicle Project. This is done by building on the country's efforts in developing two national cars and one national motorcycle, which are Proton, Perodua and Modenas, said Dr Mahathir. "The proposed new Malaysian Vehicle Project will emphasise on research and development (R&D) and the incorporation of the latest technologies in order to be competitive in both domestic and global markets. "New technology clusters as well as new expert workforce, especially in the field of automotive engineering, would be developed consequently," he said. The new Malaysian Vehicle Project is expected to contribute significantly to the nation's economic development through its support for both the upstream and downstream industries, creating the demand for other related materials, such as high grade steel, plastics, rubber and petrochemical products that will stimulate further growth of these sub-sectors. nobody want to invest in potential loss making companies. Udah2 ler dgn kete ni.. jadikan public transport kita setaraf dgn Singapore dulu.. The features of the cars not only should become more sensitive to its environment and safety, but also to an average Joe's pocket. Our public transport should have been much improved as promised by now considering the fact that subsidy of all fuels ended more than 5 years ago.

Luckily not the first national bullock cart project Just to let u know. The Detroits giants went bankrupt and needed Gov ie people's money infusion. I mean. Just wanna let u know his obsession with car manufacturing. this could only mean no reduction in prices for foreign brand still. rakyat still suffer from the higher car prices in the end. 🤦
