Dr M: Parties forming coalitions post-election should not be considered ‘hopping’

| Dr Mahathir Mohamad said parties coming together as a coalition to form a simple majority government after an election should not fall under the ambit of any future anti-hopping law.

Can form coalitions without joining new party. Unethical if win elections with one party and then jump after inducement. Different if stand for elections as individual and not with any party. Must announce it at time of elections. Most rakyat vote for the party.

Party hopping is when the individual mps or aduns who won an election under the party ticket hopped to another party. A new coalition formed among political parties is not a party hopping. Anti hopping party law is abt individual hopping & not abt formation of a new coalition.

Of course it isn't. This is how most advanced democracies form coalition governments. If they ban parties forming coalitions before or after elections, our democracy is dead in the water every time there are close elections results. It is stupid and not useful to do this.
