PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is joining a host of western Pacific nations in the ongoing World Health Organisation 70th Session of the Regional Committee Meeting held in Manila with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad leading the delegation at the five-day meeting from Monday (Oct 7) to Friday (Oct 11).

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is joining a host of western Pacific nations in the ongoing World Health Organisation 70th Session of the Regional Committee Meeting held in Manila with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly AhmadMalaysia will also be a panelist at two side events -"Innovation through Digital Health" on Wednesday and"Safe and Affordable Surgery" on Thursday .

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia had been invited to share its experience and expertise during both side events."The meeting started with the address by and report of the regional director for the Western Pacific Dr Takeshi Kasai, who took office on Feb 1 this year," said Dr Noor Hisham in a Facebook post on Monday.

Dr Kasai visited Malaysia in July this year where he had the opportunity to visit several facilities. Dr Noor Hisham said Dr Kasai was thoroughly impressed by the historical Institute for Medical Research in Jalan Pahang, the largest and state-of-the-art Klinik Kesihatan Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Fletcher, the Low Risk Birthing Centre in Putrajaya, and the KLIA Health Office.These include a White Paper titled “For the Future: Towards the Healthiest and Safest Region - a vision for WHO with member states and partners in the Western Pacific.

Others are a special briefing on the polio and measles situation in the Western Pacific region, panel discussion on ageing and health, health security, including both the Asia Pacific Strategy on Emerging Diseases and Public Health Emergencies , and the Western Pacific Regional Framework for Action for Disaster Risk Management for Health, communicable diseases, including measles and rubella elimination, HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections and implementation of the End TB...
