Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the government has not discussed calls by certain NGOs to shut down vernacular schools. — Picture by Ahmad Zamzahuri

“The racial diversity of Malaysia is actually an advantage as it gives the people a chance to learn multiple languages. There is nothing wrong about learning Mandarin, Tamil and English because we are multi-racial and multi-ethnic and should capitalise on this as our national asset. She was commenting on a memorandum from NGOs asking the government to shut down vernacular schools, which was handed over to Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik two days ago.

Boleh belajar..tapi dalam satu sekolah..at least semua bangsa boleh belajar.

Don’t be stupid by closing vernacular school. Any education centre should be welcomed and let young generations educated.

Good la. Thumbs up 👍

Most kids attending vernacular primary school ie fr Std 1 (7 yrs) to 6 (12 yrs) before they rejoin the mainstream govt schools is a problem? Allah save this country for the blindness of those who prefer to be fools & biased for the rest of their life. maszlee drwanazizah

TPM still don’t understand the issue. Nobody disagree that its good to learn mandarin, tamil etc etc. Its just that the learning should be done in the same school together for all. Got it ? Ayoo , use your blain a bit lah.

If ernacukar is not good for unity how about international school, private school. Do we need to close then too?

Vernacular school is BAD for national unity. Why should the minority dictate what is good for the nation?

Both my kids went to chinese independent school and sat for UEC. Did you know that Bahasa Malaysia English n Mandarin is a compulsory pass subject?

Reform the education system in the name of national unity. REFORMASI!

Jadi charity body, tapi yang lain nak mohon...dana dah X cukup! How ley.... Enforce travel ban on PTPTN defaulters soonest. Otherwise the govt can never get back it's money. Give Wan Saiful a break, he’s telling the truth — Geoffrey Williams | Malay MailMAY 19 — Wan Saiful Wan Jan, Chairman of PTPTN, is fast becoming Malaysia’s very own Theresa May — a very good person with a seemingly impossible job! Rightly admired for his honesty and insightful thought-leadership, Wan Saiful and his team at PTPTN have done an excellent job in laying out... The dumb commenters & columnists who don't see that the one at fault are the stupid defaulters in the 1st place. If you can't afford to study and don't want to be burdened by a loan then don't take it in the first place. The govt is giving a loan. Not a grant. Not a scholarship. Like the EPF, all PTPTN borrowers should be listed in the system and an auto debit should be incurred based on bandwidth. If that student cannot 'afford' it then they should not take the loan. Then you will be debt-free. Simple. If you have no means to pay back in future, do not study. At first u act grateful when the govt gives u a loan and when your studies is over u say bad things and refuse to pay back? Such entitlement! Malaysians do deserve to be burnt to the ground.
